Leave a legacy to Husky Rescue Ireland in your Will

Leaving a gift to Husky Rescue Ireland in your Will is an effective way to ensure that we can go on protecting and caring for huskies and akitas who are failed by their owners and have no place to go.

You don't need to be wealthy to make an enormous and life changing gift to a dog that has been neglected, abused or given up at an older age. Giving a gift in your Will can make a substantial contribution that costs nothing during your lifetime.

Together, we can ensure that fewer huskies and akitas are left homeless when they need help the most.

The difference you can make with a gift in your Will

Dogs who find themselves needing the help of a rescue centre can only be saved with help from people who want to give them a brighter future. The Government provides no funding to Husky Rescue ireland. A gift in your will makes a huge difference to over 200 dogs every year - each one will go on to lead a happier and healthier life.

  • €500 can help us to keep our kennels clean and disinfected for up to three months. It may sound like a small thing, but cleanliness is key to ensure the health of the dogs who stay at HRI is never compromised.

  • €1,000 could fund a major emergency operation - this is something that is often required when dogs are surrendered to us if their owners cannot afford, or do not want to to spend the money, to solve their dog’s health issues.

  • €5,000 can help us to feed all the dogs in our care for up to three months. We usually have between 20 - 30 dogs at the centre and this means up to 5,400 meals served over 3 months.

  • €10,000 can help us to kit out our new home with play facilities for the dogs, support facilities for our volunteers and even isolation areas for dogs who need time to readjust to life in the HRI centre either for emotional or health reasons.

  • €50,000 can buy a brand new transport van for the rescue and kit it out for transporting up to 18 dogs. Our team helps other rescues to transport dogs all across Ireland and we even drive dogs all the way to the UK, Germany and Sweden for responsible rehoming.

  • €125,000 can potentially buy a small plot of land which we can adapt to serve the needs of the organisation for many years to come.

Our promise to you

  • We promise that we will endeavour to spend the money you give in a way that is close to your heart, if that is what you wish.

  • We promise to respect your right to privacy. You don’t have to tell us how much you have decided to leave to Husky Rescue Ireland.

  • We promise to use your special gift wisely and effectively.

How to leave a gift to Husky Rescue Ireland in your Will

If you have already made a Will, but would like to leave a gift to Husky Rescue Ireland, you can do so by making a simple addition to your existing Will. This is called a codicil, and your solicitor can help you with it.

If you do not have a Will at the moment, we would strongly advise you to see a solicitor.

Although you will have to pay a fee, you will receive professional advice and can be sure that your wishes are achieved.

There are 3 ways that you can leave a gift to a charity in your Will:

1. Make a gift of a specific sum (Pecuniary Legacy). Remember, any amount – whatever you can afford after family and friends are taken care of – is priceless to the dogs that will benefit from your gift.

Here is the wording you can use to leave a Pecuniary Legacy:

“I give the sum of €_______ to Husky Rescue Ireland, Registered Charity No. 20150983, and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said Charity shall be full and sufficient discharge of the same.”

2. Leave part of your estate (Residuary legacy). This is a share of your estate that hasn’t been promised to family or friends. These kinds of gifts are enormously valuable in supporting our work.

Here is the wording you can use to leave a Residuary Legacy:

“I give to Husky Rescue Ireland, Registered Charity No. 20150983, all [or a fraction] of the residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever, and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said Charity shall be full and sufficient discharge of the same.”

3. Donate a particular gift or item (Specific Legacy). This is where you generously select a specific item of value like stocks, shares, jewellery, property, the proceeds of a life assurance policy or other valuable items.

Here is the wording you can use to leave a Specific Legacy:

“I bequeath __________ [the item specified] to Husky Rescue Ireland, Registered Charity No. 20150983,, and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said Charity shall be full and sufficient discharge of the same.”

Your solicitor will be able to provide you with advice on which option best suits your wishes and personal circumstances.

Your solicitor will need to know our address and registered charity number, which is as follows:

Husky Rescue Ireland,

Coolnacritta, Cullahill, Rathdowney,

Co. Laois, R32 E4XN

Registered Charity number: 20150983

Should I notify Husky Rescue Ireland that I’ve included them in my will?

This is entirely up to yourself. Some people don’t wish to share this piece of information and others do, either way, Husky Rescue Ireland respects your wishes.
